Union Members, Town Councilors Team Up in Go-Kart Soccer Benefit

AFSCME Local 1183, the union representing Wallingford town hall and public works employees, is teaming up with Town Council members to sponsor a special “Go-Kart Soccer” benefit on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 at 7 p.m. at On Track Karting, 984 North Colony Rd.,Wallingford.

Timed to kick off the Celebrate Wallingford weekend, “Go-Kart Soccer” will team union members from Local 1183, Police and Firefighters with Town Councilors in a friendly contest to raise funds for Wallingford Wishing Well, a charitable organization that helps children in need and their families.

 “This event will promote teamwork and put a face on town employees who keep Wallingford working every day," according to Fire Department Clerk and Local 1183 member Tom Lukowicz. "It’s going to be a fun night for the benefit of a great cause.”

During the event, two karts – one with a union worker and one with a Town Council member – will work together to advance a soccer ball around the track; kart drivers will not be allowed consecutive touches, putting an emphasis on teamwork.

Town Council member Rosemary Rascati will serve as the ceremonial starter at 7 p.m., with Council Chairman Bob Parisi and Lukowicz paired up as the first team to play.

“We hope to see a big turnout of residents and Go-Kart enthusiasts,” Lukowicz added. “The people at On Track Karting have been terrific in helping us plan a full evening of racing.”
