Wallingford Residents Show Support For Full-Day Kindergarten

Many Wallingford Patch residents are lauding a decision by the Board of Education to bring in full-day kindergarten next year.

According to the vast majority of comments on Wallingford Patch's Facebook page, many residents support full-day kindergarten and increasing preschool enrollment for the town's school district next year, despite its $1.3 million price tag.

Monday, the Wallingford Board of Education voted to institute full-day kindergarten and to increase the school district's enrollment for its preschool program next year. However, the plan requires $1.3 million in additional funding, which will be part of the school district's proposed budget this spring.

Despite the potential tax increase, many Wallingford residents supported the move when asked how they feel about it on Facebook. For example, Wallingford Patch Facebook follower Erin Elizabeth wrote, 'It's about time!"

Fellow Wallingford Patch Facebook follower Christina Pelliccio agreed, writing this:

"I moved back this summer from Wolcott. Both my kids went to all day kindergarten there and loved it. And I was a stay at home mom at the time so was a huge adjustment for them. But by the end of the year they were both reading chapter books on their own."
