Wallingford schools will not reopen Tuesday, instead choosing to remain closed for a second straight day as town staff continue to address roads, some which residents have reported were not yet plowed.
In a tweet sent out to followers in the district, School Superintendent Sal Menzo kept it short and direct: "Wallingford Public Schools closed Tuesday, February 12. #wpschools"
The blizzard Friday into Saturday dropped over two feet of snow throughout the community with drifts as high as four to five feet, according to the National Weather Service. The heavy snows left roads unpassable and the town is still working to remove, although efforts have been hampered by the total accumulation of snowfall and mechanical issues.
The school facilities are safe and are not in danger, Menzo said in an article posted on Wallingford Patch Sunday, but it is unknown when roads will be ready to go.
As a safety precaution, the district is taking things "day by day" in making decisions about when schools will reopen.
