Should Wallingford Have a Dog Park?

Should Wallingford have a dog park? And if so, where should it be located? Last September Wallingford Dog Lovers Association was started with the mission to bring a dog park to Wallingford. The group formed after several articles in a local newspaper stated that there was a piece of land at Community Lake Park that was being considered for the location of a dog park. One article stated that "it is up to the dog lovers to make it happen". The group proceeded to get the necessary approvals from the town and community people needed to make the project happen. Then the Community Lake site was removed citing "parking" as the issue and we were offer another site at Garden Road instead. Every member of the group visited Garden Road and we voted to reject the site because of the fact that it has many issues including the residential homes bordering the location as well as the difficulty getting in and out of the site. Also the town has been using this area to dump storm debris and snow for the last few years. We went on to explore other locations, looking at Marcus Cooke Park, Fresh Meadows / Galko Park and Harrison Park. The group thought Harrison Park has real possibilities and it could offer Wallingford a town beautification asset. However, it seems that there are "parking issues" as well as other issues with this location too. And we were once again "offered" the Garden Road location. Can anyone tell me why there is an obsession to develop the Garden Road site? With all the wonderful public places this town has to offer, shouldn't a dog park be as nice? A great library, our very used Senior Citizens center, our parks and recreation places... there is too much to list! Wallingford IS a nice place to live! So where should our dog park be? We would really like to hear your opinion on this issue.
