UConn Professor To Focus on Impulsive Teen Behavior at Free Talk
Beth Russell, an assistant professor at the University of Connecticut will talk about impulsive teen behavior at the Wallingford Public Library on Monday, April 21. Beth Russell will give an overview of how the ability to face stress changes from early childhood through adulthood. She will also focus on the challenges families face when a child or parent is struggling with a particular stressor. She also will provide advice on how families can make it through tough times. A member of the human development and family studies faculty, Russell’s talk is entitled ”Understanding Adolescent Impulsivity, Everyday Stress and How to Cope with the Big Stuff.” The program is sponsored jointly by the Meriden branch of the American Association of University Women, the Wallingford library, and the UConn College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Russell, who has a Ph.D. from UConn, studies impulse control in adolescence as it relates to risk-taking behaviors, with a particular interest in the benefits of mindfulness and distress tolerance practices. The talk is free and open to the public.
