Lecture: The End of the Civil War

Wallingford
Public Library presents Professor David
Koch for the lecture The End of the Civil
War
Thursday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m. This is the third and final lecture the
library has presented with Professor Koch to commemorate the 150th
anniversary of the American Civil War. Each of the previous lectures have been
enthusiastically received by large audiences.

This talk will discuss the confusion
and almost invisible passing of the Civil War. Whereas many wars end in
surrender or peace treaties, the Civil War did not do so. Instead, the war simply
petered out as Confederates surrendered, escaped west, or fled to foreign
countries. The role of the war in settling the west will also be discussed, as
it was largely a result of refugees and ex-soldiers seeking sanctuary from the
fighting and blame that would inevitably ensue.

All programs held at the Wallingford
Public Library are free and open to the public however seating is limited. Advance
registration is appreciated. Please contact the library at 203-265-6754 or
