Only 6.2 percent of Wallingford’s 45,135 residents have pistol permits, an average number when taking into account that — in some Connecticut towns — as many as 12 percent of residents possess permits.
But when comparing the actual population of pistol permit holders with other towns in New Haven County, Wallingford comes in third, according to a new map database published by The New Haven Register.
The database shows that 2,812 of Wallingford’s residents have gun permits and only two other cities — Waterbury and Meriden — are higher.
Here’s the breakdown:
Town/City Rank Permit-Holding Population Percentage of Overall Population Total Population Waterbury 1 3,372 3.10% 110,366 Meriden 2 3,033 5% 60,868 Wallingford 3 2,812 6.20% 45,135Percentage-wise, Oxford comes in first in New Haven County with 9.9 percent of its residents holding gun permits, followed by Prospect at 9.4 percent and Wolcott at 8.6 percent.
