Registration Open for Wallingford's Summer Reading Program

This year's program is titled "An Animal Odyssey 2013". A summer kick-off event will be held on June 25.

Save the animals!  Rescue animals in need and take an exciting journey this summer traveling on another spectacular game board in the Children’s Library.  To play, all you need to do is READ.  Players will attempt to rescue captive endangered animals but, they will need to learn about the animals and the landscape in order to succeed.  There will of course be challenge and danger along the way!   Each player will also choose a team for which they will play, and the team that wins will determine who gets a donation to help their cause.  Will you win for the Wallingford Animal Shelter, the World Wildlife Federation, the Connecticut Humane Society, or the ASPCA?!

Kids in grades K-2 will be asked to read 12 books, and kids in grades 3-5 will be asked to read 6 books in order to finish the program.  Students who read even more books will be entered into a raffle for extra prizes!  Read, play and win prizes all summer long!

Readers can register online at home or at the library and can start logging their books on June 28th. To register go to the Library’s website www.wallingfordlibrary.org and click on the Summer Reading Logo.

Summer Reading is super important.  Studies show that students who don’t spend enough time reading over the summer can experience summer reading loss;  that loss can be cumulative resulting in the loss of up to two grade levels by middle school for some students.

Kids who have not yet started school will also have an opportunity to join in the fun this summer.

There will be lots of monkey business as families read and kids decorate the Children’s Library with bananas, books, and of course, monkeys!

Every five books that are read will earn players stickers and other fun prizes.  When 30 books have been read there will be more prizes to take home along with a chance to win our grand prize of the summer!

A big thanks to the Wallingford Emblem Club which donates the money to make this prize possible!

Fun Family Programs!

This summer will also bring animals, magic, storytellers and science to the Wallingford Public Library!  Check out the Events Calendar on our website for full program details www.wallingfordlibrary.org
