Colin’s Crew Hosts Fun & Hope Event to Raise Money for Childhood Cancer
Wallingford, CT – A five year old's birthday party for local resident Colin Westbrook of Wallingford has evolved into something much larger this year: a Fun & Hope
event to benefit a local childhood cancer group called Colin’s Crew.
Colin’s Crew was inspired by friends and family of a brave boy, Colin Westbrook; son of Michael Westbrook and Heather Greening Westbrook of Wallingford. Colin was your typical two-year-old when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, (“ALL”) back in October 2009, just days after his second birthday. Colin’s Crew was originally formed to provide financial and emotional support to the Westbrook family. As Colin continues to do well on treatment, “Colin’s Crew” hosts events to help other families affected by childhood cancer.
All proceeds raised from the event will benefit Colin’s Crew programs. For example, the Colin’s Crew Meals4Kids
program was inspired by family members who brought the Westbrook family hot home cooked meals during their first in-patient stay at the hospital.
Since Christmas Day 2011, when the first meals were delivered, the Meals4Kids program has served 120 meals for in-patient children and their families. Colin's Crew continues to hold fundraisers to be able to continue to bring meals and a sense of home to
families in the hospital during the various holidays through this program.
The Fun & Hope event will take place on Sunday September 23rd at Wallingford Linear Trail, 147 Ward Street, Wallingford, from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Rain or shine. The afternoon will be full of hope, big wheel races, face painting, touch a truck, family walk, clown, magician and much more. $25 per family, pre-registration is preferred.
